Job Description

Vertex is offering a six-month process chemistry co-op program starting January 2027 for students pursuing degrees in chemistry or related fields. The position involves developing scalable pharmaceutical manufacturing processes using advanced techniques such as photoredox catalysis, flow chemistry, and machine learning optimization.

Responsibilities

• Train in advanced laboratory techniques including flow chemistry, photochemistry, and Design-of-Experiments
• Design and execute novel chemical experiments for photoredox catalysis optimization and scale-up
• Conduct syntheses of complex organic compounds and evaluate reaction optimization techniques
• Maintain detailed electronic laboratory notebook documentation and operate analytical instruments
• Present project progress, experimental data, and recommendations to the project team

Requirements

• Currently pursuing bachelor's or master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• Third-year undergraduate student or above at co-op start
• Completed undergraduate organic chemistry and laboratory coursework
• Strong interest in synthetic organic chemistry, catalysis, or pharmaceutical development
• Ability to work safely, independently, and collaboratively in laboratory setting
• Strong organization, documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Legal authorization to work in United States; no sponsorship available

Compensation: $25.00-$35.00 USD/hour
